Object-specific protection for collections of any size

Museums must find an ideal balance between the public's desire for intimate engagement with the art and the need to discreetly secure irreplaceable objects. Cameras and guards cannot cover and respond to everything. It's critical that any unauthorized movement of any object be detected at the point and moment of contact.
Museum collections present unique challenges. A single gallery might contain paintings, small artifacts, documents, and sculptures—all requiring different protection approaches. Traditional motion sensors are not comprehensive and vibration sensors must allow for ambient conditions.
Traveling exhibitions, loans between institutions, and special displays require flexible protection that adapts quickly and easily to changing needs.
MAP sensors create an invisible security perimeter around each individual object, regardless of size and shape, whether hanging or seated. A small rare-earth magnet attaches discreetly to the piece using museum-approved adhesives. The sensor is placed nearby—behind hanging works or beneath seated objects or their supporting surface. Both are completely hidden from view. Any unauthorized movement triggers an immediate, location-specific alert.
Conservators approve MAP because the magnet attachment is less invasive than mounting sensors directly on artwork. The system scales from protecting vulnerable pieces to comprehensive gallery coverage and from works for permanent installations to temporary exhibitions, and sensors can travel with loaned works to satisfy lenders' and insurers' requirements.
Whether integrated into a host of popular panels and access control systems or deployed in either of the dedicated MAP Systems, the MAP sensor provides across-the-board security.
A Favorite of Conservators
Preserving the integrity of the object is job #1 for museum staff. MAP's unique technology serves the demands for safety of the object, which often limits the use of other sensor attachments. In MAP's case a tiny rare earth magnet is affixed to the object with a variety of methods, including conservation tape, museum wax or even wheat or rice paste. Magnets can even be floated in a piece of foam. The MAP sensor is then placed in safe proximity to the piece, never touching it.
Flexible and Scalable
If integrated into the facility's main security MAP sensors can be used on any number of works, from select pieces to the entire collection. If deployed with either of the MAP Systems special exhibitions wherever they appear in the museum are secure. Registrars should be aware of the ability of MAP Systems to rotate within the museum and to travel with shows or works on loan to satisfy any legal concerns for protection.
Reliable
Employed by some of the most highly regarded institutions in the world. Effective and discreet coverage with minimal false alarms. Industry standard check-in and 4-5 year battery life with low battery alert.
Comprehensive
No means of object-specific protection is as versatile as MAP. Can be applied to any stationary object, as well as to cabinet doors and vitrines.
Safe
MAP is a favorite of demanding conservators because the sensor never touches the art and the tiny magnet can be attached with a completely inert adhesive or buffered from contact altogether.
Flexible
MAP can be deployed throughout a museum or in specific locations. A MAP system can be designed to travel with a show or works on loan. MAP systems are completely scalable.
Affordable
No other security system as comprehensive in its coverage costs as little initially and over the course of its life as MAP.
